Accident on US Hwy 50 in La Junta closes highway Saturday afternoon 

A black Mitsubishi eclipse lost control on US Hwy 50 in La Junta Saturday afternoon and struck a power pole.

According to a family member, the driver "hydroplaned on the little beaded hail that we had earlier. She hit the pole and then landed in the ditch. The driver and her friend are ok and did not sustain any serious injury and have been released from Arkansas valley regional medical center."

Emergency medical personnel responded and were assisted by Colorado State Patrol at the scene.

US Hwy 50 was closed and traffic detoured through frontage road for several hours while city of La Junta electrical crews replaced the power pole.
