Obituary

Joyce Faye Hicks, 75, of Rocky Ford passed away on March 29, 2021 at the Pioneer Nursing Home. She was born on July 30, 1945 in La Junta to Henry and Eunice Morley.

Joyce grew up in the Arkansas Valley and graduated from Manzanola High School. She married Franklin Ronald Hicks September 20, 1963. They spent a few years in Pasadena, CA, with both of their children being born there. The family returned to the Valley and in 1975 built a home in Rocky Ford where they lived the rest of their days.

Joyce loved God passionately and lived her life to honor Him. She and Frank dedicated much time teaching children and young adults about Jesus. She loved her family and worked hard to support them and encourage them in life. She was a mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. She laughed easily and always looked for ways to encourage those around her. Joyce loved music and played piano in her church for many years. She was a prayer warrior and always had a kind word whenever one was needed.

Joyce worked for the CSU extension office in Rocky Ford for many years, retiring in 1990. She then worked for the Hancock group as a secretary for several years. Joyce loved her jobs and enjoyed working outside the home and getting to see old and new friends, but she really wanted to spend time with her grandchildren as they grew up and dedicated many years to doing just that, and even enjoyed loving and encouraging ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Eunice Morley; parent-in-laws, Russell and Pearl Hicks; husband, Frank Hicks; brother, Charles Morley; sister-in-law, Lorna Morley; sister-in-law, Carolyn Morley; brother-in-law, Reggie McDowell; great grand-daughter, Emma Hicks.

Joyce is survived by her children, Steven (Laura) Hicks of Cheraw and Joanne (Chad) Geist of Montrose, CO; sister, Wanda (Gilbert) Werdel of Penrose, CO; brother, Jack Morley of Goldthwaite, TX; sister-in-law, Gina (Dewey) Jackson of Lorena, TX; sister-in-law, Tami McDowell of Temple, TX; sister-in-law Debi (Bruce) Wiskirchen of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Jennifer (Charles) Baca, Cory Geist, Brittany (Garyk) Ontai, Cody (Shelby) Geist, Shaun Hicks and Kamryn (Kidryn) Hicks; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Cheraw Baptist Chapel, Friday, April 9th at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rocky Ford Cemetery.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the Cheraw Baptist Chapel, P.O. Box 154, Cheraw, CO 81030.
