Stolen Rocky Ford Ambulance Recovered in Huerfano County 

From Huerfano County Sheriff’s Social Media:

"On June 4th 2021 in the early morning hours Huerfano County Deputy Frank Martin located an ambulance vehicle that appeared to be abandoned on Wind Farm Road near highway 10 approximately 16.5 miles east of Walsenburg in Huerfano County. 

Deputy Martin was able to confirm with Huerfano Dispatch that this ambulance was reported as stolen the night prior from Rocky Ford Colorado.  According to Rocky Ford law enforcement, this ambulance was stolen while on a scene and the crew was with a patient.  

After additional Deputies arrived to assist Deputy Martin, a search of the vehicle was conducted.  A male party (local to the Rocky Ford area) was found sleeping in the rear compartment of the ambulance.  The male party was taken into custody on charges relating to the motor vehicle theft and transported to Huerfano County Jail without incident.  The vehicle was returned safely to Rocky Ford.

"On 06/03/2021 at approximately 9:15 pm Rocky Ford Communications Center received a phone call of a suspicious male with an ambulance.  Rocky Ford Fire personnel was advised of the call and told the Rocky Ford Communications Center that it wasn’t a first responder. 

The same personnel then continued to get accountability of our 3 ambulances at the Public Safety Building and the 1 ambulance at the Hollar Building.  It was reported to our communications center that our 2006 Ford E350 Medic 4 ALS Ambulance Unit was missing from the Hollar Building located at 203 N. 9th Street, Rocky Ford, CO, and requested the Rocky Ford Police Department. 

A BOLO was sent out by The Rocky Ford Communications Center to the Southeast Colorado Law Enforcement Agencies and a search commenced by law enforcement in the southeast Colorado area for the stolen ambulance. 

On 06/04/2021 at approximately 5 am the Rocky Ford Communications Center received a call from Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office that they found our stolen ambulance located at State Highway 10 and Mile Marker 16.  According to the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office, when they arrived at the ambulance, they detained a male party who was in the ambulance driver’s seat. 

The stolen ambulance received significant body, suspension, and steering damage and needed to be towed back to Rocky Ford.  Details of this incident is currently under investigation by the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office and the Rocky Ford Police Department.  No further information is available at this time."
