Obituary

Frances Martinez, 59, of Rocky Ford, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at her home just nine days after the passing of her husband of 40 years, Lee Vernon Council (aka Pierre).

She was born on February 12, 1962 in Rocky Ford to the late Mr. Ralph & Mrs. Mary Martinez.

Frances graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1981. She was a stay at home mom. She loved spending time with her family and was always available when they needed her. Her joy was on display whenever she could spend time with her grandchildren.

Frances loved sports just about as much her husband. They would watch games and she would quote players stats off the top of her head.

She played softball for many years, with her husband as her coach. They made a pretty good team and went on to several championships. Her two favorite teams were the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. She also had a love for cooking and baking. She liked baking sweet - potato pies and everyone loved her special macaroni and cheese.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Vernon Council (aka Pierre), and two brothers Patrick Martinez and Ralph Martinez.

Frances leaves to cherish her memories, her two sons; Vernon Lee Council Jr. and Antonio Lee Council of Rocky Ford, Colorado; four
grandchildren, Josiah Jack Martinez Council, Carly Marie Array Council, Antonio Lee Council Jr. and Jalisa Luray Council of Colorado. Her siblings, Johnny Gonzalez (Laurie), Mary Arellano (Roman), Jane Burciago (Tony), and brother Roger Martinez of Rocky Ford, Colorado, also a host of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephew relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 14th at Fountain Creek Regional Park in Fountain, CO. Inurnment will be private at a later time.
