DEA National Medication Take Back Day; Colorado H5 Influenza Investigation; COVID-19 Rate Status

1.      Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) National Medication Take Back Day:  According to the DEA, “The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. This Saturday, April 30, is the spring Take Back Day and will occur in thousands of locations across the country.”  I have attached an informational flyer from the DEA, and you can find more information here:  Take Back Day (dea.gov)

ü  Time:  10:00am-2:00pm

ü  Locations

o   Crowley County

§  Address:  Crowley County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), 110 E 6th Street, Ordway

o   Otero County

§  Address:  La Junta Police Department (LJPD), 601 Colorado Avenue, La Junta

§  Directions:  Bring your medications to the LJPD entrance that is located on the North side of the La Junta Municipal Building and go to the window to let dispatch know you have medications for disposal.

2.      Colorado H5 Influenza Investigation:  The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is currently investigating the detection of H5 influenza virus in a person.  I have attached the CDPHE press release regarding this, it is the 2nd attachment. 

3.      COVID-19 Rate Status:  As of the time of this writing, both Crowley and Otero Counties are in Green Level for the one week cumulative incidence rate  (COVID-19 dial dashboard | Colorado COVID-19 Updates).
