Description: The Colorado Department of Transportation released the following project information regarding the US 50 & CO 71 Intersection Improvement Project in Otero County.
US 50 & CO 71 Intersection Improvement Project in Otero County
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contract partner Arrow Electric will begin an intersection improvement project on March 6. The project will take place on US Highway 50 and CO Highway 71/County Rd. 18 in Rocky Ford.
Work will include the installation of traffic signal equipment, poles, mast arms, vehicle detectors, signing, median islands and walls, asphalt, guardrail replacement and minor striping at the intersection. Work will also include minor widening to address intersection roadway alignment improvement and interconnection of the new traffic signal with BNSF Railroad gate system.
PROJECT BENEFITS
Traffic signals are a vital part of controlling traffic in an efficient manner by providing regulated movement.
Widening and alignment of the intersection will improve safety and operational performance at the intersection.
PROJECT SCHEDULE AND TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Motorists should plan for single lane closures and detours.
The project will be in operation Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The anticipated completion date is mid-August 2023.
