Hello to all, Happy Veterans’ Day, and thank you to all who have served and are serving!

Below are some COVID-19 updates for you:

  1. Mask Order Extension:  On Monday, 11/9/2020, Governor Polis extended the statewide mask order.  I have attached a copy of it (the first attachment), or you can read it here:

  1. Newly Registered Otero Death Removed:  I have previously reported to you that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) website reflected an additional Otero County death.  I contacted CDPHE questioning this death, and while I have not heard back from them yet, during my data review/analysis yesterday I found that the death has been removed, and as of the time of this writing we are now back to six COVID-19 related deaths in Otero County.
  2. 11/9/2020 Governor’s Office Update:  Please see the second attachment.
  3. All Hands On Deck!:  As you probably know by now, Crowley and Otero Counties will be in Level Orange on Friday, 11/13/2020.  Nobody wants to move officially into Level Red, which is the next and most restrictive level.  We need an “all hands on deck approach” to reduce our case rates and start moving to the left on the dial, to the less restrictive levels.  Please take this seriously and do everything you can to stop the spread.  Not only will continued COVID-19 cases cause illness, but it will cause harm to our local businesses and economy, and we do not want either.  In the attached update from the Governor’s office, it states the following:

Last week, the Governor encouraged Coloradans to do three important things:

ü  Avoid all social interactions with people outside of your household for the month of November: Cancel your social plans. This small inconvenience now could mean saving the lives of your friends and family.

ü  Wear a mask: Coloradans know that mask wearing is critical to changing these trends and moving forward.

ü  Stay 6 feet apart from others: Keep your distance even when you’re wearing a mask.

Our COVID response is only as good as Coloradans’ ability to take personal responsibility.

To those that are already taking personal responsibility by doing their part to protect both the health of people and the health of the economy, a sincere thank you.  To those who are not, please start now.  It’s up to us.

And now, I will leave you with the motto of our neighbors to the east, Kansas:  “Ad astra per aspera”.  This Latin phrase literally means ‘To the stars through difficulties”.  This phrase conveys the thought that when we overcome difficulty and trouble, we can accomplish great things.  We will overcome the adversity and trouble of COVID-19 by doing our part (as outlined in #4 above), and the great things we will achieve are as follows:

ü  Prevent sickness;

ü  Prevent deaths; &

ü  Protect our very important local businesses and economy.

Do any of you remember the rock band Kansas?  A lot of great tunes came from them in the 1970s (i.e. Dust In The Wind).

AD ASTRA PER ASPERA!
