Obituary

Loyce Goodwin (93) went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 26, 2023 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. She had been a resident of Fowler Nursing Home for a couple months, recuperating from a broken hip. She was born in Las Animas, Colorado (Keller area) to Sanders Edgar Wright and Jeanetta Pearl Wright on October 8, 1929. She was the youngest of their four daughters, the others being Clara Miller, Viola Miller, and Helen Cummings. Loyce was happily married for 69 years to Loyd Goodwin who pastored several churches in Colorado and one in California. She served in the capacity of Sunday School teacher, pianist, and in other service areas as necessary within the local church. She loved to attend church every Sunday up to the time that her health failed and made her unable to attend in person.

At that point, the services of Valley Community Church were digitally recorded and delivered to her on a weekly basis. In addition to the local services she had two or three pastors that she watched on tv on a regular basis. She loved God’s Word and enjoyed those who presented it faithfully and accurately.

Throughout their long marriage Loyce supported and actively worked with Loyd in operating multiple small businesses, including a trailer court, a used furniture store, a taxi cab service and the La Junta bus station. Through all these endeavors she was welcoming and friendly to customers while providing bookkeeping and business management. As hobbies Loyce enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and painting.

She was also a collector of churns, oil lamps, crocks, irons and chicken waterers. Loyce was a fan of professional sports. She loved to watch the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, particularly when they were winning. In her later years, family recalls her staying up past midnight to watch all thirteen innings of a Rockies game. Everyone knew that her favorite drink, whether watching a ball game or just spending time with family, was always a Pepsi Cola.

Loyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, one grandson Bryan Goodwin, and one great grandson Rodney Warren. She is survived by her two sons: Keith (Rebecca) Goodwin of La Junta, and Ken (Cindy) Goodwin of Swink. Four grandkids: Sonya Goodwin of Firestone; Delynn (Alan) Lasater of La Junta; Aaron (Denise) Goodwin of Swink; Caleb (Jessica) Goodwin of La Junta. The nine great grandkids include: Tyler Ruby, Brennan Ruby, Linsey Goodwin, Cody Goodwin, Jolyn Goodwin, Rylie Goodwin, Reagan Goodwin, Skyler Goodwin, and Avery Goodwin. In addition to family, Loyce helped raise several other kids from broken and/or abandoned homes. She experienced a full life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Services are scheduled for Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Valley Community Church with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford with Pastor Kurt England officiating.

Friends who wish can make a donation in Loyce’s memory to Valley Community Church, 27435 County Rd 22.75, Rocky Ford, Colorado. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home.
