LJPD Conducting Special Operations to Decrease Traffic Accidents at Controlled Intersections

On Monday July 10, 2023 officers with the La Junta Police Department began special operations to decrease traffic accidents in problem areas where stop signs and stop lights are disregarded by motorists, according to Chief Quick.

Officers conducted traffic stops at the 1st and Grant Ave. traffic signal to help curb accidents at one of La Junta's most dangerous intersections on Monday morning.

La Junta Police Chief Todd Quick encouraged motorists to make complete stops at traffic signals to avoid citations and traffic accidents. He elaborated that making a complete stop in the right hand turning lane during a red light with a solid white painted bar is required by law.

The La Junta Police will continue extra enforcement activities at controlled intersections with high accident rates through the month of July, according to Chief Quick.
