Las Animas School District Released Info Regarding First Positive COVID-19 Case

Wednesday November 18th

"We have our first Covid case with a student in the 5th grade class. Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by public health. As part of this public health investigation:

The person diagnosed is being kept at home until they are no longer infectious.

The person's activities when they could have spread COVID-19 were assessed.

The people who were close contacts of the person are instructed to stay home from school for 14 days after the exposure.

As a result, the fifth grade cohort will quarantine. Fifth grade parents were contacted and given information concerning their children and the next steps in the quarantine process.

Students were issued chromebooks as they moved into remote learning. Students will be provided online academic programming to help support remote learning.

All other cohorts for elementary aged students will remain the same at this time.

As cases increase in Las Animas, we will be watching closely and working diligently with Bent County Public Health. I want to assure families that we are taking this very seriously.

We are a tight knit community and we are all in this together."

Respectfully,

Ms. Goines
