Update from CSP on 7/24/23 @ 900pm: "Good news SE Colorado, Hwy 350 between Trinidad and La Junta is back open."

NWS: Flash Flooding Occurring on Timpas & Hwy 350

Otero County Sheriff Shawn Mobley Reported: "Highway 350 at around County Road 9 closed due to flash flooding.  No estimated time for reopening as of yet. CDOT headed to the area."

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 915 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR NORTH CENTRAL LAS ANIMAS, SOUTHWESTERN OTERO AND SOUTHEASTERN PUEBLO COUNTIES...

At 705 PM MDT, local law enforcement reported road closures due to heavy rain along Highway 350 between mile markers 47 and 48 southwest of Timpas. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Timpas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
