2020 New Year’s Eve Ag Gala Cancelled

LA JUNTA — It is with great sadness that the OJC Foundation Board and OJC Ag Gala Committee announces the cancellation of the 2020 New Year’s Eve Ag Gala.

Brooke Matthew, lead instructor of the OJC Ag program and Ag gala chairman, stated, “It was not an easy decision to make and was not taken lightly. However, we are looking forward to and already planning the 2021 New Year’s Ag Gala.”

Long time goers of the OJC New Year’s Eve Ag Gala explained that it has become a tradition of good food, great music, cold beer, delicious chocolates, and a way to ring in a new year with neighbors and friends.

The goal each year for the New Year’s Eve Ag Gala is to be able to continue assisting students who want to pursue degrees in the agriculture field with scholarship funds.  Last year’s event supported four students in the 2020-2021 school year.  Each student received $1,500 to help pay for tuition, fees, and books. Sophomore scholarship recipients were Alison Bregar, Pueblo; Chris Wright, Downey, Idaho; Freshman scholarship recipients were Tag Moses, Keenesburg; and Hannah Cordova, Gardner.

Bregar stated, “This scholarship has allowed me to pursue my love and knowledge for Agriculture, while following my dream of becoming an Agronomist. I really appreciate the community and the Foundation for their support of the Ag Premiere Scholarship and helping students like myself, pursue a career in Ag.” The scholars greatly appreciate the help they are receiving.

OJC and the Ag program would like to thank all of the amazing sponsors that made the 2020-2021 Scholarships possible. 2019 Ag Gala Platinum sponsors included; Colorado Vet Clinic, Farm Credit of Southern Colorado, The State Bank, Waddell and Reed Investment Services, Wallace Oil Company, and Welch Cattle Company. Next, the Gold sponsors; JLH Electrical LLC., La Junta Livestock Commission, Matthew Farms, Pipeyard, Silveus Insurance, Ordway Cattle Feeders, Dave Lewis Trucking, 4 Rivers Equipment, and WW Feed and Supply. Finally, donators of Heimerick Farms, SECO Ranch Planning, United Feeders, and John and Laurie Knapp.

Even though the 2020 Ag Gala is cancelled, there is still an opportunity to donate. The donations will support OJC agriculture students who want to pursue degrees in the agriculture field and donations are tax deductible. You can donation online with a credit card (https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/OteroJuniorCollegeFoundationd/giving.html) or send a mail donation to: OJC Foundation, 1802 Colorado Ave, La Junta, CO 81050. You can also give on Dec. 8, which is Colorado Gives Day. Every non-profit (OJC Foundation) receiving a donation on Colorado Gives Day receives a portion of the $1 Million fund, which increases the value of every dollar donated.
