Bent County Sheriff: Escaped Inmate Captured

Las Animas, Colorado - January 20, 2024, at approximately 6:30 pm an inmate was discovered missing from the Bent County Jail. Resources from surrounding agencies, including state and federal agencies, were immediately notified and requested to assist. The community notification went out at approximately 7:50 pm. 

Over twelve law enforcement and emergency agencies comprising over 70 emergency responders deployed to this search. The inmate was located near US Hwy 50 and County Road 6.25 at approximately 9:13 pm. The inmate was taken into custody without incident. There is an internal investigation and criminal investigation ongoing. 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law.
