On the Go For Fast Food

By Kaylee Hernandez

Fast food can be enjoyable and easy going and quick for people because when people are running late they can just stop and get something quick, but fast food is bad for you and your body. It could make you feel sluggish and tired. Did you know you could make healthier choices when you get fast food?

According to Medical News Today, many fast food meals are extremely low in fiber; if you eat them too often you could be at risk of heart disease. They can also cause you to gain more weight and have poor digestion due to their low fiber content.

Isbel Hernandez, an 8th grader at La Junta Junior/Senior High School, explains that when she decides to get something to eat she decides by seeing what looks better and by the prices of the food. She also looks at the menu to see what she is in the mood for and she also tries to balance going out and eating with something healthy. For an example, she might get a side of veggies or some fruits for a side dish. When she goes to eat out she usually chooses a chicken sandwich. She enjoys how the chicken is really crispy and juicy. Chick-Fil-A is her favorite place to get fast food. She usually gets it a lot when she goes up to Pueblo; her mom likes it too because they also have some healthy choices like their salads.

Amber Salzman feels that the prices for fast food are too high. “When you go out, you could be spending $20 or more. Why would you want that, when you can spend that money on actual food at a store and make more food?” She enjoys cooking at home more than going out. One of her favorite things to cook are  chicken alfredo, lasagna, and tacos; they're all fast to cook and very tasty! She noticed when she doesn’t eat out, she saves money and it helps her lose weight and be more healthy.
