Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

Aunt Eller – She is rough with a fair heart that makes her a leader in the community. Good values and a wicked sense of humor. She raises Laurey as her own.

Curly – He is a strong, rough-hewn, clever cowhand in love with Laurey, but refuses to admit it. A little immature and very cocky. Ability to play acoustic guitar is a plus!

Laurey – She is a spunky, smart, and independent young woman who has trouble admitting what she wants. Funny and a true romantic deep down. Ballet/dance experience is a plus!

Will – A simple cowboy that is smitten with Ado Annie. He has bright comic appeal and while he may not be the brightest, is earnest in his love of Annie.

Ado Annie – A flirtatious, gullible, loud, and confident young woman. A comic, romantic lead. Seeking a plus size actress, but all are considered.

Jud – A farmhand on Aunt Eller’s and Laurey’s farm. He does not fit into society well. He has some dark secrets and is feared and treated as an outsider by some and is misunderstood.

Ali Hakim – A traveling peddler who says he’s from Persia (present day Iran). Though we aren’t sure how much of what he says we should believe. A complete con man who has an eye for the ladies. Only seeking actors of color for this role.

Andrew Carnes – The overprotective father of Ado Annie. He defends his daughter with his ever present shotgun. *May also be in the ensemble.

Gertie Cummings – Gertie is an obnoxious loud mouth girl with a “unique” laugh. She has eyes for Curly making Laurey jealous. Will also be a part of the ensemble.

Ensemble – Cow Hands, farm girls, and others who make up the community. Looking for strong dancers and/or singers to fill this vital part of the cast.
