Description: Starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 and lasting until approximately 7 a.m. on Friday, May 31*, the Colorado Department of Transportation will close both directions of Colorado Highway 10 under Interstate 25 in Walsenburg while crews perform a safety critical bridge deck pour on a portion of the new southbound I-25 bridge structure. Detour routes will be posted. *Reopening time subject to change based upon concrete curing progress.

Colorado Highway 10 Will Close Under Interstate 25 in Walsenburg for Safety Critical Work

Closure will take place May 29 through May 31*

Walsenburg — Starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 and lasting until approximately 7 a.m. on Friday, May 31*, the Colorado Department of Transportation will close both directions of Colorado Highway 10 under Interstate 25 in Walsenburg while crews perform a safety critical bridge deck pour on a portion of the new southbound I-25 bridge structure. Detour routes will be posted. 

*Reopening time subject to change based upon concrete curing progress.

Traffic Impacts 

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction: 

  • CO 10 under I-25 will be closed in both directions from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 to approx. 7  a.m. on Friday, May 31, with detour routes in place.
  • The reopening time is subject to change, depending on concrete cure times.
  • The closure is necessary to maintain safety for the traveling public, the surrounding community and the construction crews as crews mobilize equipment and pour a portion of the deck for the new southbound I-25 bridge structure. 
  • Please refer to the map below for recommended detour routes. 
  • Detour routes will add approx. five miles and 10 minutes to drive times. 
  • The project limits on CO 10 are at the junction of CO 10/US 160 and extend from Mile Point 0 to MP .25.
  • Signs, barrier and construction devices will be present to alert motorists to the closure and detour routes. 
  • Caution is advised.

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
