Springfield Police Arrest 19-Year-Old in Chaotic 4th of July Incident Involving Fireworks, Road Rage, and Firearms

Description: The Springfield Police Department Released the Following Statement Regarding a Chaotic 4th of July Incident Involving Fireworks and a Firearm.

Arrest made in 4th of July traffic stop;

On 7/4/24 around 2200 hours SPD observed three vehicles driving carelessly down W 2nd Street. After stopping one of the vehicles involved an investigation into numerous issues began. 

SPD was able to conduct traffic stops on all 3 vehicles. It was determined that two groups of people were having an altercation that involved fireworks being thrown at each other, road rage, and a firearm being shot. 

The investigation led to one 19 year old male being arrested for; Prohibited use of a weapon (under the influence), Unlawful possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, Minor in Possession/Consumption of Alcohol, Minor in Possession/Consumption of Marijuana and Violation of a Restraining Order. 

Three other juvenile males will have charges referred to the District Attorneys Office for Minor in Possession/Consumption of Alcohol/Marijuana. 

This incident is currently still under investigation, nothing further will be released at this time.
