Position Title: Dual Advisor – Arkansas Valley Schools Liaison Position #: 400710

Position Status: Full-Time

As a Dual Advisor within Otero College, the Arkansas Valley Schools Liaison plays a pivotal role in fostering a college-going culture within the local high schools. This position is dedicated to assisting high school students in navigating the complexities of concurrent enrollment and college admissions. The Dual Advisor will work closely with both high school administration and students, serving as a bridge between secondary and post-secondary education, and empowering students to pursue higher education pathways.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Concurrent Enrollment Guidance:

• Provide comprehensive guidance to high school students on the opportunities and requirements for concurrent enrollment at Otero College.

• Assist students in selecting appropriate courses that align with their academic goals and interests.

• Map out academic pathways for high school students to see how their concurrent credits translate to college credit.

• Work with students and their families to explain the investment of concurrent course opportunities.

2. College Admissions Support:

• Offer guidance and support to students throughout the college admissions process, including application submission, essay writing, and understanding financial aid options.

• Conduct workshops and one-on-one sessions to explain the college application journey.

3. School Collaboration:

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with high school counselors, administrators, and faculty members to coordinate outreach efforts and ensure seamless communication regarding college-related activities and resources.

4. College-Going Advocacy:

• Serve as an advocate for college readiness within the Arkansas Valley community by organizing events, workshops, and presentations aimed at promoting the benefits of higher education and addressing barriers to access.

5. Resource Development:

• Develop and disseminate informational materials, guides, and resources to support students and families in understanding the college enrollment process, including financial aid, scholarships, and academic planning.

6. Data Management:

• Maintain accurate records of student interactions, program participation, and outcomes. Utilize data to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement in college readiness initiatives.

7. Recruitment and Outreach:

• Recruiting students to Otero College from the Arkansas Valley and beyond.

• Recruitment activities will include attending college fairs across Colorado to promote the Otero College brand. Travel will be necessary during certain parts of the year, and some overnight stays may be required.

• Assist with recruitment events on the Otero College campus such as Discovery Days, Rattle and En-Roll, Day-Night College Fairs, and group/individual campus tours.

• Other duties as assigned.

This position is funded through a Title V, Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program (DHSI), for five years beginning October 1, 2020. Any grant funded position with future employment will be contingent upon funding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

• Demonstrated commitment to supporting and serving diverse student populations, with special emphasis on first-generation, low-income, and students of color.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and academic planning.

• Experience working with high school students in an educational or advising capacity.

• Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Educational philosophy in alignment with that of a small rural, comprehensive Community College and enthusiasm for this type of environment and the aspirations of its people.

SALARY:

ABOUT OTERO COLLEGE:

Founded in 1941, Otero College is an accredited Hispanic Serving Institution and is a state two-year community college with approximately 1500 students (1250 FTE) made up of traditional, non-traditional and international students.
