Obituary

Steven C. Wallin, 63, of La Junta, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 27, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. Steve was born October 7, 1960 in Waverly, Iowa to Charles D. and Helen Sandra (Watson) Wallin.  

Steve grew up in Waverly and Waterloo, Iowa and attended school there, until his family moved to La Junta in 1972. He attended school in La Junta from the 6th grade and graduated from La Junta High School with the class of 1979.  

Steve married the love of his life, Cindy Sneath on March 21, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a man of many talents holding a variety of different jobs until in 1994 when he decided to follow in his uncle Don Watson’s footsteps and become a truck driver. Hauling fuel, propane and the last 10 years he was able to work hauling crude oil in the Cheyenne Wells area. Steve was an avid hunter and loved the time he spent with friends out South of town even if it meant branding cows. He enjoyed doing mechanics and spending time with his family and friends and was a member of the La Junta Elks #701 Lodge. Playing cards and drinking beer were a good thing. Steve never hesitated to help if asked and was just one of those good guys. He had a heart of gold. 

Steve was raised in the Lutheran Church and believed in God.  

Steve is survived by his wife, Cindy of the family home, mother Helen Wallin of the family home, brothers Scott (Sheila) Wallin of Pueblo, Todd (Olivia) Wallin of Tuscon, Arizona, brother-in-law Bob (Debbie) Sneath of Yorktown, Virginia, nieces and nephews Ashlee (Adam) Wiseman, Wyatt and Wade, Elizabeth Wallin all of Pueblo, Renee and Charlie Wallin of Tuscon, Arizona, Brian (Casey Nash) Sneath, and Carter of Chantilly, Virginia and Austin Sneath of Newport News, Virginia. He also leaves behind a host of very close friends. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Wallin, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.  

Celebration of Steve’s life will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, with Pastor Larry Chapman of Cheraw Community Church Officiating.
