I-25 Crash Near Pueblo Involving Military Personnel

(Pueblo, COLO)  On August 23rd, 2024 at about 4:01 a.m. the Colorado State Patrol responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on I-25 southbound near milepost 107 just north of Pueblo.

(Pueblo, COLO) - Troopers on scene have determined there was a military convoy traveling southbound on I-25 in the right lane. The rear vehicle in that convoy was a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) pulling a trailer with flashing lights and a banner across the back that said, "Convoy Ahead". That vehicle was occupied by four soldiers.

Crash investigators suspect that the red 2007 Ford Expedition struck the trailer at the rear of the convey while exceeding the posted 75 MPH speed limit. There were three people in the Expedition.

The trailer and JLTV rolled onto its top and came to rest in the center median. The Expedition also came to final rest in the center median on it's wheels. All four soldiers self-extricated and rendered aid to the occupants of the other vehicle before being transported to the hospital for precautionary measures. All three occupants of the Expedition suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

The driver, a 29 year old Denver male, is being investigated for impairment. Possible charges in this crash will be filed upon the conclusion of the investigation and the return of chemical test results. All lanes of I-25 resumed normal traffic flow at 10:00 a.m.
