Shoplifting Suspect on Electric Scooter Leads LJPD on Highway Chase
 
On 08/22/2024 at 1500 hrs, Officers with the La Junta Police Department were called to Wal-Mart located at 6 Conley Road in the City of La Junta regarding shoplifting in progress.
 
Prior to the Officers' arrival, Wal-Mart Asset Protection Employees reported that the suspect had left the area, traveling eastbound on Highway 50 on an electric foot scooter.
 
Officers located the suspect near the intersection of Highway 50 and County Road 27 and attempted to stop him.
 
The suspect ignored the patrol vehicle lights and siren and continued traveling eastbound on the shoulder of the highway on his scooter until he was stopped near the intersection of Highway 50 and Bent Ave.
 
The suspect was then placed in custody without further incident and was identified as 44-year-old Daniel Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales was charged with shoplifting and obstructing a peace officer.
 
All Parties Considered Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
