Obituary

Judith Marie Gemmecke of La Junta, Colorado entered into rest August 7, 2024 at the Bent County Nursing Care Center in Las Animas, Colorado. She was born in La Junta, Colorado on January 23, 1960 to Katherine Jean Ellis and George Marion Gemmecke. She was proceeded in death by her father, George Marion Gemmecke, her mother, Katherine Jean Gemmecke, her brother, George Fredrick Gemmecke, and her sister, Carolyn Gemmecke. She is survived by her niece, Angela Farr and family, her cousin, Susan Gemmecke Easley, her adopted sister, Dorinda Martinez and family and her adopted sister, Donna Vigil.

Judith grew up here in Colorado. She graduated from La Junta High School in 1978. She went to serve her country in 1983 in the United States Navy just as her father had done. Judith came home to attend college and in total earned three different degrees. She earned an Associate of Applied Science at Otero Junior College and later in life earned an Associate of Science in Health Administrative Services with Honors and then her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Cum Laude.

Judith enjoyed serving with the VA out of Manzanola, Colorado for many years. She spent many of those years serving her community at different places with her customer service skills. Many know her from one of these many jobs over the years.

Judith loved her family and was very proud of all of them. She was always willing to tell anyone just how much given the chance. She was welcomed by the arms of her Savior, her parents, and siblings on August 7, 2024, at Bent County Nursing Care Center. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local VA to support their efforts.

A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held, 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Johnson Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
