Six Dogs Seized in Bent County Animal Neglect Case with Charges Pending for Alleged Cruelty to Animals

On Friday, August 30th, Deputies of the Bent County Sheriff's Office and Posse worked with the Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection in regards to an animal neglect case on the 21000 block of U.S. Highway 50. An investigation was conducted with the assistance of the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and a total of six dogs were seized for medical care, food, water, and shelter. 

The animals had been neglected for a considerable amount of time. Food and water were routinely dropped off until a court order was signed by a judge to seize the animals. Charges will be filed in violation of C.R.S. 18-9-202 Cruelty to Animals, against the owner(s). 

The Bent County Sheriff's Office would like everyone to know that abuse, malnourishment, torture, mutilation, or neglect of any animal is a crime and will be prosecuted.

We would also like to thank all the citizens who helped with donating what they could to aid in helping these animals survive until they were seized. 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
