Obituary

Alice “LaLa” Gomez, 83, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on August 29, 2024. Alice was born on August 10, 1941, to Ernest & Agnes (Blea) Gomez in Swink, CO. She was fondly remembered as the school lunch lady even years after retiring from the R-2 School District. She was a devoted mother who loved spending time with family and friends. She was an amazing person with a beautiful smile and was loved by many people. She will be deeply missed. 

In addition to the cherished time with family and friends, Alice loved going to yard sales and parades, attending the Arkansas Valley Fair and celebrating Fiesta Day in Pueblo. Dancing and listening to music brought her great happiness. 

Alice is survived by 7 children: Viola (Gary) DeLeon of Denver, Michael Mora of Rocky Ford, David Mora of Rocky Ford, Theresa Aragon (Sam Montoya) of Rocky Ford, Vickie Cordova of Florida, Tanya (Wade) Sulzman of Massachusetts, Johnny (Rachael) Cordova of Lamar; 4 siblings: Stella Gomez of Denver, Corine (David) Schulz of Denver, Richard Gomez of Denver, Carolyn (Ed) Coffelt of Loveland; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and recently by her grandson Leon Montoya. 

The family is grateful to neighbors, friends and relatives who spent time with Alice. Special thanks to Monica Warman for all the care and dear friendship she provided to her. Many thanks to Sangre de Cristo Hospice Care for the support to Alice and her family in her final months of life.

Viewing will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel; 109 E. 4th Street; La Junta, CO. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 a.m. Both services at St. Peter Catholic Church; 1209 Swink Ave; Rocky Ford, CO. Following the interment service, at Rocky Ford Cemetery, a reception will be held at Washington Primary School; 709 S 11th Street; Rocky Ford.
