Obituary

Charles Christopher Powell, 64, passed away at his home in La Junta, Colorado on September 1, 2024. Charles was born on July 22, 1960 in Raton, New Mexico to Charles Brice Powell & Angie Casias. Charles "Butch" "Wolf" will be remembered as the life of the party and his love for his family and friends.  

Charles attended school in La Junta. He lived in La Junta until 1984 then moved to Denver, CO. He worked at the phone company installing phone services at businesses and traveled to different states. He also worked at Diamond Vogel Paints for 20 years. Then in June 17, 2019, we moved to La Junta and Charles landed a job at the Senior Center as a City Bus Driver for almost 5 years.  

He enjoyed his job as a bus driver. He also enjoyed camping every year at Stage-Coach and going to Sturgis annually from 2011 until 2024. He enjoyed riding his bike with his friends in Denver and throughout the state. 

Charles is survived by his wife, Lynnette Powell of the La Junta home; children, Celina Powell of Denver, Colorado and Samantha Powell of Media, New Mexico; step-son, Zachary Persons; grandchildren, Jordin Powell, Brandin Powell Kailoni Martinez and Evelyn Powell; mother, Angie Powell of La Junta; siblings, Virginia (Lawrence) Imperial of Santa Fe, NM, Dorothy (Ignacio) Rivera of Phoenix, AZ, Louis Casias of La Junta, Kenny (Sharla) Powell of Rapid City, SD, Robert Powell of La Junta and Shirley Torres of La Junta; nephew, Nick Martinez and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends; and a step-granddaughter survives. He was preceded by his father, Charles B. Powell, stepfather, Joe Romero, and maternal & paternal grandparents. 

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Inurnment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Celebration of life will be at 24761 La Veta St., La Junta, CO at his family’s property following services.
