Manyik, Trujillo, MacRunnel Take Top Awards at Fine Arts League Show

Top winners of the Fine Arts League’s Early Settlers Day Art Show were: Best of Show, Sherry Manyik, oil, “Prairie Palace;” Jurors Choice: Al Trujillo, photography, “Faithful at San Geronimo;” and Peoples Choice, Brianne MacRunnel, digital arts, “ Winter Splendor.”

The judge for the show, held this past weekend at La Junta’s Koshare Museum, was Lani Vlaanderen, an artist currently living near Crowley, CO. She works exclusively in oil paints.

Category winners were:

Oils: First, Brenda Geesen, “Iris;” second, Donna Abert, “Mother’s Day;” third, Norma Jean Pittulo, “Apples;” honorable mention, Brenda Geesen, “Audrey;” and Rose Starling, “Fall Reflections.”

Acrylics: First, Carol Gill, “Who’s There?;” second, Rose Starling, “Bearly Seen;” third, Debbie Phillips, “Winter’s Moonlight.”

Mixed Media: First, Talissa Sky Carrusa, “The Spiral;” second, Brenda Geesen, “Bible Journaling;” third, Debbie Phillips, “Strumming Along.”

Watercolors: First, Virgie Long, “At the Top;” second, Norma Adler, “Silence.”

Pastels: First, Carol Gill, “A Quick Drink;” second, Laverne Hanes, “C’s Tree;” third, Virgie Long, “Simon;” honorable mention: Laverne Hanes, “Cacti;” and Mary Brundage, “Mr. Bubbles.”

Color and Black and White Photography: First, Al Trujillo, “Aspen at San Isabel;” second, Sue Keefer, “Those Eyes;” third, Michelle Valdez, “Retire;” honorable mention, Michael Tafoya, “Smooth Pour,” and Sue Keefer, “Dewy Grass.”

Digitally Manipulated Photography: First, Annette Smith, “We All Wear Masks, Don’t We?;” second, Ethan Malec, “Tsu Kahara Bokuden;” third, Brianne MacRunnel, “Winter Splendor;” honorable mention, Annette Smith, “How I Feel More Than Not.”

Graphite and charcoals: First, Ethan Malec, “To Journey’s End.”

3D Arts: First, Char Hosea, “Ratrick Rat;” second, Marianne Hale, “Frenzy;” third, Frank Jones, “Can You See Me?;” honorable mention, Char Hosea, “Mariposa Monarch.”

The Fine Arts League (FAL) was established in July, 1967, by five founding members. FAL’s mission is to encourage members to display artwork in local galleries and art shows in order to enhance fine art in the community. FAL hosts art shows and online actions to help members sell their artwork. FAL also organizes workshops to help members expand their skills.

Members may display art at the Junction 50 Galleria, 112 W. 1st Street, La Junta.

Fine Arts League offers monetary awards at the Otero Arts Festival to encourage youth in our surrounding communities.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month.
