Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joshua Paul Ortega
Sunrise: September 7, 2007—Sunset: April 5, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joshua Otega, who left this world far too soon due to a tragic accident on April 4, 2025. He was 17 years old. He was born September 7, 2007, in La Junta.
Joshua was a beloved son, brother, cousin, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone he met. Known for his big heart, kind spirit, and infectious smile, Joshua had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and appreciated. He was the kind of person who showed up — always ready to lend a helping hand, share a joke or be a shoulder to lean on.
Joshua was passionate about money, loved dancing, skateboarding, hiking, hanging out with friends, and he brought dedication and enthusiasm to everything he pursued. He was especially proud of completing the diversion program. He touched the lives of many and left behind memories that will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his father, Juan (Carmen) Ortega, Sr.; mother, Cinda (Jared Muniz) Maestas; his 2 brothers, Manuel (Jasmyne Trujillo) Ortega and Juan Ortega Jr. of La junta; grandparents, Danny and Janet Salazar of La Junta and Federico Ortega of Cajula, Mexico; along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. Joshua is preceded in death by his grandmother, Esther Fernandez, grandfather, Manuel Maestas, uncle, Roybal, aunt, Donna Penn, cousin, Joshua Roybal and good friend Jarin Lasley. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the time we had with Joshua and the love he shared so freely.
Celebration of Life service will be held April 18, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at The Knights of Columbus Hall in La Junta. 118 Steen Avenue, La Junta, CO 81050.
Joshua may be gone from our sight, but he will never be gone from our hearts. Rest easy, Joshua. You will be forever missed and eternally loved.
