Vacant Home Severely Damaged in Chestnut Street Fire; Investigation Underway

At approximately 8:30 last night (May 7th) a citizen stopped at Fire Station Two on Elm Ave and reported a possible structure fire near the intersection of Elm Ave and Chestnut Street.  Fire crews responded emergent to the area and found a two story home with significant smoke coming from multiple areas of the structure,  in the 1400 block of Chestnut Street.

Fire crews began an aggressive interior fire attack with search  operations, but were eventually forced to transition to defensive fire operations due to the extent of fire spread inside the home. The home was reportedly vacant and no injuries were reported.

The structure sustained major damage and the fire cause is under an active investigation with the assistance of the Fremont County Sheriffs Office, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and Canon City Area Fire Protection District Investigators.

If you have any pertinent information on this incident please call the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department. The attached pictures are courtesy of Liz Walker. Thank you to Canon City Volunteer Fire Department for their hard work in assisting us.
