Obituary

Leah Marie Graft, born on October 19, 1969, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away at the age of 55 on May 14, 2025, at her sister's home in Fowler.

Leah was the second of five girls in her family. She attended elementary, middle and part of high school in Florence, and graduated from Rye High School. Known for her love of reading and her impressive vocabulary, she was often found in libraries or with her nose in a book.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing from Colorado State University-Pueblo, formerly USC. Leah served a partial mission for the LDS Church in the Baltimore, Maryland Mission, and later returned to Maryland to work as a research analyst for AARP. Upon returning to Colorado, she worked as a property manager for the Aurora Housing Authority, Tri-County Housing, 64th & Clay Storage, and most recently, for Volunteers of America.

Leah had a lifelong passion for family history. She traveled to large genealogy libraries across the country and maintained a vast private collection of family photos and pedigree charts. As a ward family history specialist, she enjoyed teaching others how to research their own family histories. In addition to her genealogical pursuits, Leah amassed a large collection of books on various topics and cherished spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her sisters: Kimberly (Terry), Rebecca (Michael), Amanda (Jarrod), and Jennifer, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Leah was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Graft.

A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leah held various callings, including Relief Society and Primary teacher, as well as ward librarian. Her contributions to the community were significant, reflecting her commitment to service.

Leah will be remembered for her strong will and friendly smile. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Leah, we love you always. Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
