Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was 72 years old. Ray was born Tuesday, July 29, 1952, in La Junta, Colorado to Horacio & Lucy (Baca) Moreno.
Ray dedicated his life to his family and community. For most of his career, he worked as a contractor, where he was known for his hard work, dedication, and the exceptional quality of his craftsmanship. His commitment to his trade mirrored his commitment to the values he held dear.
Ray proudly served in the National Guard for 20 years, exemplifying his dedication to his country and community. He took great pride in presenting the flag through the American Legion Post 8, a role he considered an honor and privilege.
A devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks #701, he shared his time and talents generously, contributing to various charitable effort and community events. His spirit of service extended beyond these organizations, as he also volunteered as a guide at the Otero Museum, sharing his passion and knowledge with visitors.
Above all, Ray was a loving grandfather where he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Silas, Marlon, and Brileigh. He delighted in spoiling Brileigh, creating memories that will forever be treasured by his family.
Ray will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his community, and his generous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and hard work.
Rest in peace, Ray. Your life was a blessing, your memory was a treasure, and you will be dearly missed.
Ray is survived by his sons, Christopher Moreno of La Junta, CO; Michael (Jason) Moreno of Sheridan, CO; and Cody Moreno of La Junta, CO; grandchildren, Silas Moreno, Brileigh Moreno & Marlon Moreno; Ray's former wife, Christine Moreno of La Junta, CO; siblings, Horace (Susan) Moreno, George Moreno, Albert Moreno, Jim Moreno, and Sue (Douglas); numerous nieces & nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, Horacio & Lucy Moreno; brother, Leo Moreno; and nephew, Isaac Moreno, Jr.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ft. Lyon National Cemetery at Ft. Lyon, Colorado at 12:30 p.m.
