Traffic Stop in La Junta Leads to Felony Eluding Arrest, Drug and Weapon Seizure
On January 5, 2026, at approximately 6:56 AM, officers from the La Junta Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a black 2007 Saturn Ion that was traveling north on the North La Junta Bridge.
The vehicle attempted to evade the officers in the North La Junta area. After approximately five minutes, the vehicle came to a stop.
The two occupants were identified as Dylan Provinzano and Monica Mondragon. Provinzano had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, while Mondragon had an outstanding felony warrant.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the seizure of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an illegal weapon.
Mondragon was charged with:
- C.R.S. 18-18-403.5 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Provinzano was charged with the following offenses:
- C.R.S. 18-9-116.5 for felony vehicular eluding
- C.R.S. 42-4-1401 for reckless driving
- C.R.S. 18-18-403.5 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance
-C.R.S. 18-12-102(4) for possession of an illegal weapon.
All Parties Considered Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
