Ken R. Hood
Candidate for Re-Election for the Office of Otero County Assessor
I have been an Otero County resident for the last 32 years. My wife and I own a small farm/ranch near Fowler. I have been in the Otero County Assessor’s Office for 29 years and have had the responsibility and privilege of serving as the Assessor for 24 years.
I am seeking Re-Election for the Office of Otero County Assessor. I am completing my 6th term this year and if elected will continue to serve Otero County to the best of my ability. As Assessor, I have seen many changes in the County over the last 24 years. I have also seen many changes in technology as well as legislation that dictates how I am to approach the appraisal of property.
We have made use of new technology to improve our accuracy and efficiency. We have converted to a new Software system recently that will provide not only us in the Assessor’s Office with more tools, this new system provides the property owners of Otero County a website with access to up-to-date information as well as access to maps and data tools at no cost to the user.
The Assessor’s Office has and will continue to approach our task of Discovery, Listing, Classifying, and Valuing Property with Integrity, Honesty, Fairness in an Ethical manner. Our staff is very knowledgeable and capable to do the best that can be done to see that this is accomplished. We also try our best to provide the public with information and help in this everchanging Legislative climate.
Over the past 24 years in office, I have been an active member of the Colorado Assessor’s Association. I have served as the Agricultural Committee Chairman for the past 20 years, the District 2 Chairman for the past 20 years, a member of the Legislative Committee, and a member of the Executive Board.
I am a Licensed Appraiser, and a hands-on Assessor. I am responsible for Ag valuation, Natural Resources, and State Assessed Properties as well as all required reporting procedures.
I have been involved with the 4-H organization for the last 32 years, serving as a past 4-H leader and a long-time member of the Otero County 4-H Foundation Board.
