Obituary

​Gregory Allen Abernathy made his heavenly journey home on April 24, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born on August 20, 1972, in Lamar, Colorado, to Cheryl and James Abernathy of Lamar, Colorado.

​He was a 1990 graduate of Lamar High School and after high school Greg went to Pueblo Community College to further pursue Engineering in Pueblo, Colorado.

Greg was a beloved husband to Kristie Abernathy and a devoted father to Derek, Hayley, and Mary Abernathy, and his step children Courtney Hodge, Caden Jackson, Tiffany Williamson, Tiera Wilder, and Cody Wilder. An amazing loving grandfather to his grandchildren Nolan Jackson, Ezekiel and Ayana Vigil.

He spent his life working as an engineer and was passionate about the Denver Broncos, The Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and music.

His greatest joys were being present in the lives of his family and friends. And making others laugh and smile.

He is survived by his wife Kristie Abernathy, his children Derek Abernathy, Hayley Abernathy (Chase), Mary Abernathy (Joshua), and step children Tiera Wilder, Cody Wilder, Tiffany Williamson, Courtney Hodge, Son-in-law Adam Vigil & Caden l(Sydney) Jackson. His sister Janet (Tony) Peck and Brother Jim (Roseangela) Abernathy. His loving parents James and Cheryl Abernathy. His grandchildren Nolan Jackson, Ezekiel Vigil, Ayana Vigil, NaMiah Jackson, Natalie, Zanaye Knowlen and Cody Jr. Wilder. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.. Leaving behind a legacy of strength and devotion.

Greg is preceded in death by his grandparents Earl and Alma Abernathy, and Woodrow and Anna Hall. As well as his Uncle Paul Abernathy and his Aunt Mary Abernathy.

A funeral service will be held at Central Christian Church at 2:00 pm on April 30, 2026.

Burial at 3:00 pm at the Imperial Funeral Home at 5450 Highway 78 West, pueblo Colorado 81005.

The Family asks attendees to wear Denver Bronco gear or any metal band shirts and food and beverages to follow after burial back at Central Christian Church.
