Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on US Highway 50 Near Manzanola Claims Life of 18-Year-Old Driver

Colorado State Patrol Reports on Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Near Manzanola
The Colorado State Patrol Public Information Officer reported that state troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on April 28, 2026 at 10:26 PM at US Hwy 50 mile post 359 near Manzanola.

Vehicle 1: Black Ford Explorer
The Driver of Vehicle 1 was a 47 year old male of Canon City, who was transported by flight for serious injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Vehicle 2: White Toyota Tacoma Pickup
The Driver of Vehicle 2 was an 18 year old male of Manzanola, who suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash scene, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Crash Narrative:
The Ford Explorer (Vehicle 1) was traveling westbound on US Highway 50 near mile post 358. The Toyota Tacoma (Vehicle 2) was traveling eastbound on US 50 near mile post 358. The Ford Explorer crossed over the centerline of the roadway striking the Toyota in the front. The Ford Explorer (Vehicle 1) continued westbound and began to rotate, coming to a stop on it's wheels facing east, off of the south side of the roadway. The Toyota Tacoma (Vehicle 2) continued eastbound and began to rotate and came to a stop on it's wheels facing east on the south side of the roadway.
US Highway 50 was closed at 10:44 PM in both directions, and reopened at 2:42 AM on April 29, 2026, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The Colorado State Patrol is Investigating the crash.
