POLICE HAPPENINGS - 04/19/26 - 04/26/26

* 04/19/26 - FOUND PROPERTY - Status: Under investigation.

Officer Sandoval was dispatched to the 200 block of Locust to pick up found property.

* 04/19/26 - ASSAULT - SIMPLE ASSAULT - Status: Unfounded

Officer responded to the 600 block of 5th Street on a report of a male party being assaulted by his brother-in-law, suspect was not currently on scene and no weapons were involved. Officer contacted the victim who stated he was assaulted after his mother was called names by the family member and went to another residence to confront that party.

*04/19/26 - SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY - Status: UNFOUNDED

Officer Williamson responded to the 1000 block of Locust Ave on a report of a male party that keeps coming over to the residence and banging on the doors and yelling at the residents. Suspect was reported as wearing white T-shirt and shorts, black socks with a beard and sunglasses.

*04/20/2026 - MISSING PERSON - Chief Dougherty responded to complainant and was advised of an individual who has not been seen for about one week and usually has daily contact with the individual.

*04/20/2026 - UNATTENDED DEATH - Status: Cleared By Exception

Officer Dunagan responded to the 600 block of Ash on a report of a deceased male. The case is ongoing.

*04/21/26 - LIQUOR LAW - Status: Citation issued

Officer Dunagan contacted Sean Pechek, 45, of Las Animas in the 400 block of Carson Avenue. Pechek was issued a summons to Municipal Court for an open alcoholic beverage in public.

*04/22/26 - FAILURE TO APPEAR - Status: Ongoing investigation

Officer Dunagan conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of Locust Ave. Officer found the passenger, Eva Martinez, 52, of Las Animas to have a valid warrant for her arrest out of Otero County for failure to appear. Martinez was arrested and transported to the Bent County Jail and held on a $4000 bond. The driver was released and the investigation is ongoing.

*04/22/26 - UNATTENDED DEATH - Status: Cleared

Officers responded to the 300 block of Vigil Ave for a welfare check. Officers were able to locate a deceased male in the residence. No criminal activity appeared. Coroner was called.

*04/22/26 - DISORDERLY CONDUCT - Status: under investigation

Officer Smith responded to possible disorderly conduct in front of Family Dollar, investigation is ongoing.

*04/23/26 - DAMAGED PROPERTY, PRIVATE - Status: Report taken

Officer Sandoval responded to the 300 block of Grand to take a report of damaged property.

*04/23/26 - PARKING - Status: resolved

Chief Dougherty observed a parking matter in the 200 block of Bent Ave. Responsible party was contacted and resolved this matter without incident.

*04/23/26 - CIVIL DISPUTE - Status: Unfounded

An unknown reporting party is stating that an elderly female residents daughter is being abusive and is going to go back into the home in the 200 block of Grand Ave. Upon arrival by Officer Williamson it was discovered by the reporting party, a caregiver in the residence, had embellished the report and the report was handled as a non-emergency. The daughter left the residence on her own accord, with no further action required by law enforcement.

*04/24/26 - WARRANT - Status: Cleared

Officers responded to shots fired in the 400 block of Garfield. Upon arrival officers encountered a subject with a known misdemeanor warrant. Officers took subject into custody without incident and transported subject to the Bent County Jail. Original call was investigated and was unfounded.

*04/24/26 - SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY - Status: Resolved

Unknown complainant advised of possible minor in a liquor establishment in the 600 block of Carson. Chief Dougherty contact the RO and advised of CRS regarding minors in a liquor establishment. Matter was resolved without incident.

*04/24/26 - REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED - Status: unfounded

Officer Olinger responded to the 300 block of Carson Ave on reports of possible shots fired. The case has been documented.

*04/25/26 - DAMAGED PROPERTY - Status: under investigation

Officer Olinger responded to the 300 block of 6th Street on a report of a planter that had caught fir. The case has been documented.

*04/25/26 - TRESPASSING - Status: Under Investigation

Officer Olinger responded to the 300 block of Vigil Ave on a report of a cold burglary. The case is currently under investigation.

*04/25/26 - PUBLIC PEACE, OTHER - Status: civil dispute

Officer Williamson responded to the 400 block of Grand Ave on a report of a possible domestic abuse problem, of a male and female arguing. The female was on the ground. Upon arrival officer advised dispatch that the female was on the ground when arrived and that it was just verbal arguing and that it is a civil dispute.

*04/25/26 - OBSTRUCT POLICE - Status: Under investigation

Officer Olinger took a report of a disturbance. This case is currently under investigation.

*04/26/26 - MEDICAL ASSIST - Status: completed

Officer Sandoval responded to the 500 block of Carson Ave to assist with a medical call. Officer remained on scene and assisted the ambulance with the call.

All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
