Multi-Agency Colorado Drug Bust Leads to Arrests - Fentanyl, Meth, Cocaine and Firearms Seized

Wiretap Case Leads to Multi-Agency Arrests, Guns, Drugs

Mesa County, CO – The Western Colorado Drug Task Force (WCDTF), in coordination with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office initiated a wiretap investigation into several Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO). This investigation spanned from late 2025 to early 2026. During the investigation, detectives identified individuals believed to be sources of supply for illegal narcotics distributed throughout Mesa County.

Law enforcement arrested 33-year-old Lester Miranda-Davis in Denver on an outstanding warrant and took him into custody. Miranda-Davis was transferred and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charge:

 18-18-405 DF1 – Distribute/Manufacture/Possession with Intent 

Melvin Hunsberger, 50, was contacted in the area of N 22nd Street and Chipeta Avenue, Grand Junction, and taken into custody. Hunsberger was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

18-18-407(1)(b) DF1 – Special Circumstances Conspiracy to

Distribute/Manufacture/Sell

18-18-405 DF1 – Distribute/Manufacture/Possession with Intent 

Tampering with Physical Evidence – Destroy

Vehicular Eluding

Travis Schultz, 37, was contacted in Utah and arrested on multiple drug-related charges.

In total, law enforcement seized more than 10,400 fentanyl pills, approximately 62.6 pounds of methamphetamine, 13.11 pounds of cocaine, and additional illegal substances with an estimated street value of approximately $450,000. In addition, other seizures related to this case include approximately $117,000 in U.S. currency and eight vehicles.

This multi-jurisdictional operation resulted in the seizure of narcotics, currency, firearms, and vehicles. Participating agencies included the Western Colorado Drug Task Force, Colorado Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, and 21 st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, along with several additional law enforcement partners.

The WCDTF, in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement, remains committed to keeping our community safe by disrupting drug trafficking and preventing illegal substances from reaching our neighborhoods. We are grateful for the dedication and tireless efforts of all law enforcement involved in this case, including the Colorado State Patrol, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

This investigation remains ongoing, with additional arrests pending. No additional information is available at this time. 

Charges are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent.

Drug task forces in Mesa County began as a partnership in the early 1980's. The Western Colorado Drug Task Force was formalized in 1998 with an agreement to coordinate resources to investigate the illegal distribution of drugs between the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the Grand Junction Police Department, in partnership with federal agencies.

Since that time, cooperation and coordination have expanded to numerous state and federal partners, maximizing resources and strengthening efforts to combat illegal drug activity for the safety and well-being of our community.

This partnership between local law enforcement agencies and the DEA has been an effective and highly successful unit in stopping, confiscating, and impacting drug distribution across the country and internationally.
