Colorado Bureau of Investigation Investigates Suspicious Death in Las Animas County
May 19, 2026 – CBI – Ludlow, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was requested to investigate a suspicious death after deputies with the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an abandoned building in the area of Country Rd. 44 and County Rd 61.5 on May 17, 2026, at approximately 1:42 p.m.
The investigation began after a visitor located a deceased body in an abandoned building near the Ludlow Massacre Memorial Site about 15 miles north of Trinidad. The deceased person has been identified as James Hedges (DOB 03-05-83) of Trinidad, CO. The circumstances surrounding the death appear to be suspicious at this time.
The CBI is asking for anybody with any information surrounding this incident to contact the CBI or the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office at 719-846-2211 extension 7.
