The North La Junta Bridge Spans the Arkansas River, despite some graffiti, it is a great spot for pictures. Saturday at dusk a couple highschool seniors used it for the back drop of their photo shoot. Their silhouettes can be seen between the golden light reflecting on the car hood and the sunset luminating the Arkansas River in the bottom right corner.
The country roads provide clear views of the horizon to the West. Sometimes great shots result from choosing a subject to cast against the vibrantly changing display. - Here cloudy pink and blue skies are crisscrossed by blacked out powerlines.
All shades fade to gold just before the sun sinks below the horizon. Returning to the same spot can make for great pictures because with each experience the photographer learns about how the light reflects off the subject and scenery.
This picture is from the same spot as above but cropped to remove the tree and with this barbed wire as a strong foreground focal point.
The water tower on County Road CC in Swink catches the last of Saturday's light...powerlines crossed right in the way of the focal point and detract from the quality of the picture.
Again, from the same spot the next night, Feb 7th...this time a couple steps further to the South with a wide-angle lense, the water tower stands alone as the foreground focal point.
Use caution if taking photos by the roadside at dusk and dawn as visibility is limited for motorists, and never take photos while driving.

A pink, blue and purple sky seems to ripple and burst with color, but just like every day before it though it fades into darkness. This is a great capture to highlight silhouettes and how they can add lines of perspective and a sense of size and scale.
This center-pivot irrigation system seems to fade off into the sunset with the last of the day's golden light...
No two sunsets are the same...No two perspectives are the same...And no two images are the same...
We live here for the people...but the Southeast Colorado sunsets aren't bad either...Let's capture the qualities that make Southeast Colorado a Great Place to Live...Together...
