Southeast Colorado Firefighters Battle Fast-Moving Structure Fire on Memorial Day

At approx 213 pm today we were toned out to a reported structure fire. Arrival of our Deputy Chief found an out building on fire with lots of debris and junk vehicles and weeds.

The wind had just picked blowing very hard to the North pushing the fire toward a couple of residents and other property.

Crews began a quick attack trying to slow down the fire progression. Due to lack of fire hydrants in the close proximity, mutual aid was requested for water tenders from Rocky Ford Fire, Cheraw Fire, Bent County Fire Department, and Manzanola Fire.

Crews worked quick and fast to keep the fire contained to the original property. Multiple personnel from all the departments worked great together to bring the fire under control.

Thanks to OCSO, Otero Emergency Management, Otero Road and Bridge and other citizens help direct traffic and such. Thanks to Southeast Power to check power lines.

The cause is under investigation. Photos courtesy of Christina Tozzie.
