Helicopter Experiences Electrical Issue While Working the Hidden Creek Fire
Rye, CO - At approximately 12:45 pm today, a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) Bell 205 helicopter, operating as N3804C, experienced a small electrical fire in the cockpit. The aircraft, which is based out of Canon City, was actively working the Hidden Creek Fire at the time of the incident and had just completed a water drop.
The pilot, who was the only individual on board, upon smelling and then seeing smoke, followed standard emergency procedures and successfully executed an emergency landing in a nearby field. There were no injuries reported.
DFPC is currently conducting a mechanical assessment of the helicopter. An investigation into the incident will be conducted that follows standard safety and aviation protocols. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
