Aspen Acres Fire Expands Beyond 22,000 Acres With 0% Containment as Evacuations Continue

Description: The Aspen Acres Fire has grown to more than 22,000 acres with 0% containment as mandatory evacuation areas expand across Custer and Pueblo counties. Officials report no injuries, unknown structure losses, multiple highway closures, and shelters available for residents, pets, and large animals.

The fire has expanded to over 22,000 acres and is expected to grow tonight.
Containment 0%
Injuries None
Structures Lost: Yes in both counties but the number is unknown.
Number of Deputies and Posse members assigned to the incident: 18
Custer Road and Bridge sent two 4,000 gallon water tenders.
Earlier there was a news media mention of the cause of fire. That mention was not accurate. This morning CCSO requested a fire investigator from the State. The USFS sent an investigator as well. However they cannot reach the area where the fire originated to begin an investigation. Our only priority today was life safety and helping to evacuate addresses in both counties.
Below is a list of areas in both counties that are subject to the mandatory fire evacuation. The Deputies will not force people to leave but will educate them on the danger. Once you leave your home you will not be permitted to return until the all clear is given. Remember to take important items like photos, medical prescriptions, CPAP, and other items you will need.

3r Road to Crow Cut Off
3r Road East to Water barrel Rd
Burn Mill Rd to Interstate 25
The following Highways are closed:
Highway 165 from Highway 96. (Mackenzie Junction) to Colorado City.
Highway 78
Highway 96 is OPEN and has been all day.
Wetmore Community Center is an evacuation shelter (currently no one being sheltered there).
