Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Darryl Keith Whatley, who entered eternal rest on July 24, 2026, at the age of 62.

Born on March 29, 1964, to Dave Whatley and the late Shirley Almeida, Darryl lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and a generous heart. He was the type of person who would do anything for anyone, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or offer support to those he loved.

Darryl had an incredible eye for interior design and was always transforming his home into a warm and beautiful space. Friends and family admired his talent for decorating, especially during the holidays, when his home reflected the love and care he put into everything he did. He also loved to cook and found great joy in preparing meals to share with family and friends.

Above all, Darryl's greatest love was his dogs. Cookie, Ewok, Jasper, Chiquita, and Penny Marshall were not just pets: they were his children and the center of his world. They preceded him in death, and those who knew Darryl find comfort in imagining a joyful reunion with the companions he loved so deeply.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shirley Almeida; his cherished dogs, Cookie, Ewok, Jasper, Chiquita and Penny Marshall; and his grandparents, Alfonso and Mary Whatley.

Darryl is survived by his father, Dave Whatley; his stepmother, Nancy Whatley; his brothers, Dale Whatley and Darin Whatley his sisters, Erika Almeida-Trujillo and Jolene (Benny) Whatley-Padilla along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Darryl's kindness, generous spirit, creativity, and unwavering love for his family and his beloved dogs will never be forgotten. While our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and in knowing that his legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will continue to live on in all who knew him.

A celebration of Darryl's life will be held at a later date. The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
