**Update** Fatal Crash On Interstate 70 Involving A Juvenile

(Colorado) – The ongoing investigation shows the Acura struck the end terminal, or nose, of the guardrail directly on the passenger side door, causing the door to push through the vehicle. The guardrail then folded, pushing the teen driver out of the driver's side door.

The teen had a valid minor driver’s license. The investigation is ongoing.

Fatal Crash On Interstate 70 Involving A Juvenile

(COLORADO) – Today, at approximately 3:42 p.m., a Colorado State Patrol Sergeant was patrolling in the area of eastbound Interstate 70 near the Highway 36 exit (milepost 306) when he observed a grey Acura sedan that had recently crashed into a guardrail on the left shoulder of the Highway 36 exit. 

Once on scene, the Sergeant found a male juvenile outside of the car on the ground, unconscious. The Sergeant and an Arapahoe County Deputy began CPR on the juvenile, and shortly after, the juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial investigation shows that the grey Acura was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 at a high rate of speed and attempted to exit onto Highway 36 when it lost control and struck approximately 50 feet of guardrail on the left shoulder of the road. The juvenile was wearing a seatbelt, but was ejected from the vehicle due to the crash. The vehicle was occupied by only the juvenile.

The roadway was closed for the crash investigation and was fully reopened at about 7:23 p.m.

The Colorado State Patrol is the lead investigating agency for this crash.
