Aspen Acres Fire Daily Update – August 7, 2026

KEY MESSAGES
Incident Commanders conducted an aerial reconnaissance flight over the fire yesterday to observe the perimeter and evaluate current fire behavior. While the fire remains within established boundaries, isolated smoke rising from the interior of the fire area may be visible. Fire managers are continuously monitoring these interior smokes to confirm the fire remains within its current footprint.
CURRENT SITUATION
Suppression repair is underway across the entire fire area. Crews are fixing fences, cleaning out ditches, and chipping wood and brush that were previously cleared for firelines.
Near Saint Charles Peak on the western perimeter, the primary fireline is complete that utilized a combination of constructed line and natural features. While the fire is smoldering and has not reached this primary fireline, fire managers have a high level of confidence that the line will hold and do not expect the fire to cross it under foreseeable conditions.
Along the southwestern perimeter near San Isabel, the primary fireline is complete, and firefighters continue preparing the contingency line along 369 Road. Heat pockets remain scattered inside the fire area, and light smoke may be seen from time to time as those interior fuels continue to burn. Firefighters are actively working in the area, checking for hot spots, and patrolling to ensure the fire stays well within its established perimeter.
WEATHER
Conditions are expected to be warm, dry, and unstable. Overnight humidity levels will continue to drop through the weekend, with only 30-35% recovery at mid-elevations by Sunday. Temperatures will keep warming, reaching the mid 90s on Friday and upper 90s in the lower elevations over the weekend. Winds will stay terrain driven, with easterly gusts up to 20 mph on the higher ridges and 20-25 mph in the lower areas.
CLOSURE AND EVACUATIONS
There is a Fire Area Closure on the U.S. Forest Service, Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, San Carlos Ranger District. Note that the Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness is open with access only through the Bartlett and Greenhorn trailheads out of Rye. Visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../aspen-acres-fire-area-closure.
There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place over the fire area, covering a 7‑nautical‑mile radius. It is active during daytime hours only, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This restriction applies to all aircraft, including drones and other unmanned aerial systems.
