Fire Update – Gold Mountain Fire

Safety Message: For firefighter and public safety, please respect closures and use slower speeds when driving near fire areas and incident camps. Forest Service Roads 864 and 858 remain closed south of Cimarron as heavy equipment and firefighting operations continue in the area.
 
Current Situation:
 
Suppression repair operations on the Gold Mountain Fire are almost complete. Heavy equipment crews support repair operations, working their way out of the northern half of the fire area. The southern portion is unstaffed as containment lines are secure and suppression repair is complete in Divisions A-D and Z.
 
Branch I: Divisions A-D, F, H/K
 
Crews complete all remaining dozerline repair in Branch I. With heavy equipment operations, including chipping and masticating, nearly finished across the branch, operators work their way out of Divisions F and H/K, cleaning up remaining areas as they exit. A road grader continues smoothing County Road 858 and is now moving into Division P/R.
 
Branch III: Divisions P/R, U and Z
 
Crews in Division P/R keep working on dozerline repair on Forest Service land near the Fish Creek Reservoirs. Suppression module firefighters remain in the Middle Fork Cimarron River area, observing for hotspots and working with helicopters to provide water drops as needed. Yesterday, there was increased activity in this area which was visible from Ridgeway. In Division U, crews clear ditches and culverts of activity generated fuels. Skidders consolidate slash piles and log decks along established firelines and roadways.
 
Weather and Fire Behavior:
Warm and dry weather conditions will persist into the weekend. High temperatures will average about 10 degrees above normal, with afternoon humidities in the upper single digits and teens. Afternoon winds may gust up to 25 miles per hour. This combination will lead to Elevated Fire Weather through Saturday.

No Fly Zone: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the Gold Mountain and Elk Fire areas is in effect. Flying drones near the fire is prohibited and can interfere with firefighting aircraft, potentially grounding aerial suppression operations.
