Minutes of the August 4 Meeting
President Wayne Potter called the meeting to order at the Dairy Queen in Las Animas. Twenty-five members and one guest enjoyed treats before the call to order. We were all happy to welcome Chuck and Karen Donkle as well.
Minutes were approved as written in the newsletter and a treasurer’s report was not given because we were in a public place.
Old Business
The club took second place at the Missouri Days Parade in Fowler with a monetary award of $25. There were four participants in the parade.
Seven or eight members attended the big McMillan car show in Ordway for Crowley County Days. Jimmie won a drawing for $100 there.
Early Settlers Day parade was attended by 6 participants including 2 tractors.
Some attended the Big Boy locomotive at Kit Carson.
New Business
Cruise night this month will take place on Wednesday, August 12. Please meet at Auggie’s Market at 5:30 p.m. to go to the Timpas School. The Huff family is furnishing refreshments and a tour of the renovated schoolhouse.
The fair parade entry is sent. (Judy has the wrong date in past newsletters. It will be on Friday, August 21. Please make this correction on your calendar!)
On Tuesday August 18, Cottonwood Ridge will host the Car club and old vehicles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coffee and donuts will await attendees in the morning, and lunch will be served at noon.
August 14 & 15 will be Lamar’s Downtown Car show.
Our next meeting will be September 1 at the museum. Some members have been participating in the museum’s trivia nights and encourage others to join in the fun.
Ideas for our upcoming car show in September were discussed. Chuck and Jimmie are working on the flyer and dash plaques. Terry’s Corvette and Chuck’s tractor will be featured on the flyer and dash plaques. The flyer will point out the car care and kids’ activities that are new to the show this year.
The club will be in the Tarantula Days parade and the car show will be held in the north courthouse parking lot. There may be follow-up from programs at the park car show.
We will be meeting in the north city park pavilion next year for our hamburger fry and ice cream social. Leonard will make reservations next January.
Wayne gave last meeting’s auction money to the treasurer and thanked Greg for running the meeting in July.
Dale brought a flyer for the Ken Bay Auction which has old cars for sale.
The club presented Judy with a wonderful gift card.
Secretary Judy Walgren
