TWO TRINIDAD MEN IDENTIFIED IN EAST MAIN STREET DEATH INVESTIGATION
TRINIDAD, COLORADO — At approximately 1640 hours on August 9, 2026, two adult men were found deceased inside a pickup truck in the 900 block of East Main Street in Trinidad.
The decedents have been identified as:
Branden Philip Daniel Phelps, 34, of Trinidad
Michael Anthony Baca, 46, of Trinidad
The legal next of kin for both decedents have been notified.
The Las Animas County Coroner’s Office is conducting the medicolegal death investigation. The Trinidad Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Autopsies are scheduled to assist in determining the cause and manner of death for each decedent. Both cases remain pending completion of the postmortem examinations and the ongoing investigations.
Additional information will be released when appropriate and when its release will not interfere with the ongoing investigations.
