Obituary

John Dominick Zumbo of La Junta, Colorado, entered into rest, August 6, 2026, in his home. He was born, January 1, 1939 in Greenwich, Connecticut to Domenica and Dominick Zumbo. He was 87 years of age.

John was the 1st born baby of the New year in Greenwich, Connecticut. He grew up in a wonderful Italian family. Keeping with traditions of family, names to pass on and an energy in storytelling to make you feel like you were there.

After high school, John joined the U.S. Air Force and served as an Airman and then in the National Guard at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After completing his term of service with honor…he moved back to Connecticut to see where his heart and mind might take him next. He quickly got the bug for traveling here and there and everywhere. Had many jobs-from auto industry, phone company, vacuum cleaner company and advertisement…always doing something. When moving back to Colorado with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren he was still wanting to travel and find excitement in life. He had many hobbies –his favorites included cars, road trips and flying. Through all these experiences and history… he made life-long friends and discovered new family. He desired a more peaceful life and decided to move to La Junta, Colorado…where he spent his last years.

He is survived by his family: Sister Marie (Aunt Cookie), Son Dominick and his family: Daniel (Victoria); Cydney and Jace; Daughter Danielle and her family: Sara (Josh) and Michael: Daughter Judith (Mike) and her family: Christina, Elliot, Andrew, Sheyna, Bonnie and Haley. Daughter Domenica (passed) – but living are her children Charlea and Angelica.

We want to thank all the caregivers who have been a great comfort to John over the years and always watched over him with kindness – Robert and Theresa of La Junta, Colorado.

Through John we all have learned to be stronger, resilient, loving and give each other the support anyone might need.
