Teen Seriously Injured in 26 7/8 Road Crash Near Grand Junction; Jeep Driver Arrested on DUI and Vehicular Assault Charges

Serious Crash on 26 ⅞ Road

(MESA COUNTY, COLO) - On August 24, 2026, at approximately 7 p.m., we responded to a crash on 26 7/8 Road and Legacy Way, near Grand Junction.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver of a Jeep Wrangler lost control of the vehicle while traveling northbound on 26 7/8 Road. The driver of the Jeep appeared to be fishtailing until he overrotated. The Jeep slid across the roadway sideways, leaving skid marks from all four tires. The Jeep collided with a Colman minibike. The driver of the minibike struck the hood and was then thrown from the front of the vehicle, landing off the west side of the road. The Jeep and the minibike then slid off the roadway sideways and came to final rest. The Jeep was facing westbound on all four tires. The minibike was on its left side facing north.

The driver of the Jeep and the 27-year-old passenger had no report of injury.

The driver of the minibike, a teenage juvenile, was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old male from Grand Junction, CO, Kolby Jones, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Vehicular Assault-DUI
  • Vehicular Assault-Reckless
  • Driving Under The Influence with 1 Prior Alcohol Offense
  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Under Restraint-alcohol-related
  • Failure To Display Proof Of Insurance

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is the lead investigating agency. The investigation is ongoing.

**Arrests and charges are merely accusations until and unless a suspect is convicted of a crime. All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
