Position Overview: General Maintenance Worker

Position Summary: La Junta/Otero County Housing Authority is seeking a reliable, skilled and community-focused General Maintenance Worker to join our property operations team. In this role, you will perform routine and emergency repairs, property maintenance, and unit turnovers to ensure our residents live in a safe, clean and well-maintained affordable housing.

Key Responsibilities:

Unit Turnovers: Prepare vacant housing units for new tenants by performing painting, drywall repairs, cleaning and carpentry.

General Repairs: Troubleshoot and fix routine maintenance issues related to plumbing, electrical fixtures, doors, windows and hardware.

Preventative Maintenance: Conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance on building systems, common areas and exterior grounds.

Work Order Management: Complete daily maintenance requests efficiently, accurately document work performed, and maintain inventory of tools.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to safety, and fair housing regulations while working in and around occupied properties.

On Call Duties: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to handle after hours maintenance emergencies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience of hands-on experience in general building maintenance, property maintenance or residential construction.

Skills: Demonstrated working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical repairs, drywall patching, painting, and the safe use of hand and power tools.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation (must be insurable under the agency’s policy.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand/walk for extended periods.

Soft Skills: Strong customer service skills, patience, and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with residents from diverse backgrounds.
